From the Desk of Chairperson: Smt. Parna Ghosh (In-Charge of Public Works Department)

The Bolpur Municipal Public Works Department is always active in providing infrastructural facilities for the people of Bolpur. Housing, drinking water, roads, drains, and sanitation are basic needs that are directly related to every human being. Keeping in mind the needs of the common people, the PW Department performs these tasks very efficiently. If you want to achieve anything successfully, you need a good plan,; otherwise, success does not come easily. Therefore, the Department of Public Works is always vigilant and works diligently to plan and implement any project.

In short, It is service department for the benefits of people of Bolpur and tourist of santiniketan. Public works means a Project consisting of the construction, repair, renovation, or maintenance of buildings, structures, sewers, water works, roads, culverts, bridges as well as any other improvement to be constructed, repaired or renovated or maintained on public property to be paid, in whole or in part, with Govt. funds or with financing to be retired with municipal funds or otherwise.

Objectives

The main objectives of Public Works Department is Sound Planning and Design, Engineered Construction, Effective Maintenance, Benchmarking the Standards, Capacity Building, Manpower Planning, and Transparency in Management of Works.

Functions

Public works encompasses engineering, construction and related activities carried out by Bolpur Municipality for the benefit of citizens of the Bolpur and the tourists of Santiniketan.

The Public Works Department plays a major role in the economic, commercial and touristic development of Bolpur. Being a service Department, it is entrusted with all the developmental activities like Planning, Design, Construction, Operation and Maintenance of all types of construction works in this municipality.

Public Services

  1. Infrastructure development by proper planning like Construction of roads, drains, culverts, bridges, buildings and maintenance the same.
  2. Sanctions of building plan , residential or commercial through EODB.
  3. Infrastructure development for LIG through construction of DUs and roads -drains under Govt. funded projects.
  4. Slum areas development through municipal development fund.
  5. Providing drinking water through house service connection of pipeline, Installation of Submersible Pump and Tube wells and municipal tankers.
  6. Municipal areas development through 30 Watt LED street light , 90 Watt LED street light and High Mast Lights at main roads.
  7. Beautification of Bolpur City for the tourist of Santiniketan.
  8. Disposals of public grievance through municipal legal advisor.

The Department of Public Works is one of the most important departments within Bolpur Municipality. It is responsible for providing infrastructural services such as roads, drains, buildings, drinking water supply, and other civil and electrical works that directly impact the lives of the common people.

Nowadays, this type of service has seen improvements. Furthermore, these services will continue to be enhanced through various plans in the future.

Our primary goal is to provide services to all individuals by implementing public welfare schemes initiated by the government. These services include the construction of roads, drains, buildings, drinking water supply, and other civil and electrical works.

Ongoing Projects: (Report as on 30.11.2023)

  1. Construction of Cement Concrete Road and Bituminous Road at different wards under DMA Schemes.
  2. Construction of Cement Concrete drains at different wards under BMS Schemes.
  3. Supplying, fitting and fixing of LED lights at different wards under Green City Mission.
  4. Supply of drinking water by installation of Deep Tubewell (Submersible pump) at different wards under 15th Finance.
  5. Construction of Urban Health & Wellness centre within ward no – 02, 05 & 14.

Upcoming Projects: (Report as on 30.11.2023)

  1. Construction of Cement Concrete Road and Bituminous Road at different wards under DMA Schemes.
  2. Construction of Cement Concrete drains at different wards under BMS Schemes.

  2. Construction of Carshed at Udyanpally for the purpose of SWM.
  3. Construction of multipurpose Shed at RMC Market for the street vendors.
  4. Construction of MAA Canteen shed at Jambuni Busterminous More.
  5. Set up BSK Centre at Ground floor of Municipal Office Building.
  6. Set up sculpture of Kaviguru Rabidranath Tagore at Surul More.
  7. Construction of Cement Concrete Road and Bituminous Road within ward no – 6, 11, 19, 21 & 22 under DMA Schemes.
  8. Construction of Cement Concrete drains within ward no – 10, 11, 16, 17, 13, 18, 21 & 22 under BMS Schemes.
  9. Construction of Shelter for Urban Homeless (SUH) building Jambuni Mathpara.
  10. Installation of Deep Tubewell @ 5 nos each wards for supply of water.
  11. Renovation and develops of Board of Councilor Room, CICs Room and Councilor Room.
